In the exhibit, Liminal, it was super cool seeing so many paintings of different styles all created by different artists, and some artists were ones tht I have interviewed in the past. Finding out that this was a senior show, I really felt the sentimentality behind each piece as it conveyed the artistic progress and journey that each artist had to go through over the years.
Yireh Elaine Kwak painted the piece shown above and found inspiration through nature, which is an important part of her family and symbolically, her home. Her paintings are landscape and what I immediately noticed were how vibrant the colors are. Kwak says she uses oil colors to create that atmosphere of vibrancy and life, as well as bold brush strokes. Van Gogh is one of my favorite artists and when Kwak said she was inspired by his style, I was very excited.
When Kwak paints, she paints from observation and memory. She believes that memory is important because it is able to unleash ideas that you can’t just see with your eyes but feel from your heart.
